Buying New Tires |

I noticed that my rear tire on my 2000 748s is showing the white threads under the tread so it´s more than past time to replace my tires. I´m just riding around town, no track time, and am trying to decide what the best tire for the money is. Most of the major tire manfacturer´s seem to have a good comprimise between performance racing and touring levels and they are all with $10 in price ($220 - $230 for the set) Rear 180/55 17ZR Front 120/60 17ZR The best prices I have found (including shipping costs) are Dunlop Qualifer www.comacc.com set special f/r for $220 Bridgestone Battlax BT014 www.MotoSport.com rear $130, front $100 ($230) Michelin Pilot Power www.comacc.com set special f/r for $220 Pirelli Diablo Supersport www.motorcycle-superstore.com rear $129, front $98 ($227) Is one of these significantly better than the others? Also, I´m trying to decide whether to pull the wheels off myself. I have a pit stand, torque wrench and a breaker bar for the back wheel but I think there is some sort of special tool need for the front (I read that it comes in the tool kit but I don´t have the tool kit) A local shop (Bates - www.bates2.net) will put the tire on and balance it but only on pulled wheels. Has anyone done this and is it worth the trouble? ohoh748 |
