| Well 1st off..... WELL DONE and WELCOME TO THE DUKE CLAN!! A noisey clutch is part of the whole Duke thing - they have a dry clutch system and are therefore inherently (erm spelling!) noisey, dont worry bout it! I dont want to scare you with the following list, these are the norm issues that crop up, like any kind of bike they all have issues, its just people like to gigle at Ducati�s cos they aint cheap!! You must also remember that the Duke you got is essentially a track bike with lights and a tax disk, andas such they simply aint designed to be ridden then lobbed in the garage for weeks, then ridden and put away, Jap bikes can run like this for years, but not Italian bikes. Common things you wanna look out for: 1. The stock oil light pressure switch is rubbish, they get water in em dead easy then stop working! chek oil level, then this if your oil light comes on and dont panic- they are really easy to replace and quite cheap. 2.The cable/s that connect the alternator(on the left handside)to the rectifier(on the right under the battery)have a stupid little connetion piece with 2 types of connector- one barrel and one spade type, as they come over the engine behind the battery - basically they get hot, increase resistance , get hotter and melt often taking out the rectifier, make sure these are sound connections! 3. The recifier is said to be rubbish (although I have never had any problems with mine, and I suffered the above cable melt!), might be an idea to buy a spare (?!!). 4. You have probably heard the horror and paranoia stories regarding the belts- well, as long as you inspect them at least twice a year and change them if your in any doubt, you should be fine. 5. MAke sure you get the alternator nut checked at least once a year- they have a single bolt that holds the thing onto the crank, and in �some� cases the nut has come loose and wrecked the engine. All of the above are just common things people have reported on, personally I had the Oil pressure switch, and alternator cable issues on mine (I own the one that is in the picture for the model) and I have to say hand on heart.. �they ARE a reliable bike, if you look after it right!� Anyroad- Im off now for a grind round some country roads... you getout there and DO THE SAME!!! :O) Doug(dugcati) |
