Hi Chris B.
I have owned my 1982 Pantah since new, it had the same problem Eats batteries, and I traced it to the same fault. The low current draw is not present on all voltimiters when switched off. I harvested the unit out of my flat mates race bike which did not have a steady state current draw when swithced off. That lasted about 10 years then failed completely. I could not source a new one so am currentl operating without one, figuring the warning light capability causes more reliability issues than it flags. Batteries last about 3-4 years without the voltimiter.
