This is a lovely bike. Not super fast but loads of torque and inherently reliable. While I never owned one, I put many thousands of kilometres on a short wheelbase model belonging to my brother-in-law. THis was an ex-police bike which he bought sight unseen with 12,000 miles on it. I picked it up the day it came into the shop from the police department and rode it from Melbourne to Adelaide 2 days later (700k). The police fairing had too much drag so that came off & an "S" type fairing went on. This bike as used for extensive commuting and touring. When my brother-in-law took up production racing he raced it for several years with the only mechanical work needed the replacement of the rocker covers. Until he learned the right technique he used to grind them down very quickly on hard cornering. I´ve ridden it Adelaide to Bathurst ()1000K) and back on several occasions and found it comfortable and able to cruise at around 150K (90MPH) comfortably. The only drawbacks are the 4 speed box on the early models and the slight twitchiness at speed that the short wheelbase causes (compensated for by VERY quick cornering). He still has it some 30 years later. |
