The ´82 R65LS is a very limited moto. Yet, as with most Airhead BMWs, it does a great deal well. Its sum exceeds the total of its parts. The one area in which the R65 excels is in the lower speed twisties, (up to and into the 60´s,) where its shorter frame makes it more flickable than many other bikes, thus compensating for its lack of power. That said, I could not in all conscience recommend it to anyone, the other Airhead models being overall more capable, and less idiosyncratic. The R65LS, complete with dorky useless fairing, is a bike lacking a niche. One last comment: it is a bike that lends itself to modification, one that can be morphed into a unique all-rounder/jack-of-all-trades with the exercise of imagination, the expenditure of vast amounts of green stuff, and, most helpful, the ingestion of vast quantities of fermented liquids.
