I have recently purchased a 2004 BMW R1150RT ex police bike set up with the single seat, shallow depth rear radio box (top box) crash bars front and back and shallow depth side paniers. Generally, I am very happy with the bike but It would be great to have more luggage capacity for storage of helmet etc. There are lots of these bike around the world and presumably other have had similar ideas. What I would like to do is get a repalcement top cover ( which is hinged) that has a lot more height to it to take a helmet for example. Then just unscrew the hinges of the original one and screw on the bigger capacity top box cover. Has anybody done such a thing ? I know that BMW sell a kit which will re-convert the police bike back to civilian in regards to the rear end plus seat, footpegs etc but it would be a lot simler to get a new higher cover made and just change that over. Any comments would be welcome. |
