I´m 53. For the last twelve years I have been riding an R100RS. In the last few years, I have had problems with my back and neck, probably caused partly by work, probably by my riding. C4 and C6 are herniaeted. In any case, my neurosurgeon, told me that if I absolutely want to keep on riding long distances, it would be advisable for me to get a bike with more protection and a more upright position. My options are either to get an RT or the new K 1200 GT. I´ve always dreamt of owning a 4 cylinder bike with para and telelever, thereby avoiding the diving motion when one brakes hard, which I tend to do. The Hossack front suspension seems to do the trick as well. My problem is, the Brussels motor show opens the day after tomorrow, but I intend to go there only on the last evening. I spoke to my dealer, and he told me that if I want to wait for their test bike to be in, if I were to order a GT, it would only be delivered in July. Not a good thing, since I don´t want to run in a new bike on an Alpine tour that should take me from here to Croatia and back, riding the spine of Europe on the way back, from Slovenia to the South of France. He proposes to lend me a K 1200 S for a full weekend for me to ride as much as I want. He claims that the only difference will be the sitting position. The frame, engine, suspensions are the same, the gearing ratios could be different, geared towards more ?? torque. The handling should be the same. Do I take that chance ? It´s the only way I´m going to have the bike delivered by the end of March. Your input will be appreciated. Caratz, Belgium. |
