I am working on my fathers 1996 Heritage Softail which has been sitting aprt for the last year. I am going to reinstall the rear wheel with new bearings and races. My question is on the order of the parts going back together and the proper way to check the play when I am done. First regarding reassembly, Is this the proper order? Staring from the left side: 1)wheel seal 2)bearing & race 3)axle sleeve 4)shim 5)washer (with the raised center) 6)bearing & race 7)wheel seal Is this correct. Between #2, the bearing and #3, the axle sleeve their is no washer beteen the two.The sleeve will be dierctly against the bearing? How do I check the end play. Do I put only wheel seal in? Where do I place the end the dial indicator? Thanks, RF |
