92 Harley Heritage Classic

Have a 92 Heritage Classic. Runs strong about 40 miles, and then dies out, Let it sit for a minute, starts right up, runs for about another 10 miles. Anyone heard of this problem before? Is it common? And whats the fix? Thanks, Sonny
