Owner of 2003 Softail. Mint condition. During first ride, had the fuel line disconnect from the tank. The quick connect fitting had not been installed correctly, last time it had been removed. Very dangerous situation when travelling down road, to smell gasoline vapors, then realize that it is from the motor you are riding above. Gas being pumped over a hot motor and exhaust below you. Turned the bike off to stop the fuel flow, and stopped as safe and qucik as possible, and got away from the bike, hoping it wouldn´t ignite. When installing the quick connect fitting, always ensure the fitting is open fully, slipped all the way on the tank nozzle, and snap it in place. then give the line a good tug to ensure it is secure!! I contacted the shop where I purchased the bike, and explained tghe situation, and asked that they discuss this with all their mechanics, to make it a policy for all bikes, before releasing them to customers. Give your fuel line a tug at times, before a trip.
