An interesting story/history but the bike was NOT the later XJ900 Diversion which had a better driveline are noted for delivering hyper-galactic mileages. There was one recently on Ebay that had done 180,000 but the engine had only 30,000 on it. Suggests the original did 150,000.
I´ve got a Div 600S, plenty fast enough for UK roads and economical, though spark plugs arent cheap at £7 a pop. I can´t comment further as not had it long. People think sports bikes are faster and having 100 rather than 60bhp they should be, but except for track day sessions a Divvie 600 would surprise many a plastic rocket. The 600 has usable power from 2000rpm (in low gears), tops at 9,500 and 6,000 is all you need on UK roads. Wind it on and not much will touch it, so dont let motorcycle snobbery put you off. Oh yes, 55mpg is normal.
