1999 Trophy stalls on high Throttle |

Got my 99 Trophy in 2009 and sat most of its life. It has been a long time since it has performed well at all. It has always had problems at getting to higher RPMs. I had had it into the Triumph shop twice with only marginal success. So, after setting for about 11 years, I´m attempting to get it running good. After a lot of work, I´m still unable to get the RPM´s. In a brief test, It cannot reach red-line in either first or second gear; at least a 1000 less. Below is what´s been done. I would appreciate any guidance to a path forward as I´m running out of options I can think of. 1) Replaced the bad Gill coils with Nology. HT lead resistance right at 5Kohm. 2) Took carbs to have ultrasonically cleaned and one size larger jets. This took care of the severe lag in throttle response. It also turned the plugs from gray to black. 3) Took carbs back to have idle and main returned to OEM; leaving the mid range alone. Plugs remain black and no change to gain RPM. 4) Checked valve clearance (intake and exhaust) are good. 5) Replaced fuel lines, removed in-line filters, inspected petcock operation, and cleaned tank filter. All appeared to be clean and operational. 6) checked pickup coil gap. 7) Compression test (~115 to 135psi) |
