Well, i think it would not be any problem, because the 1995 Speed Triple is almost the same motorcycle and has the same gasoline tank. You should buy or finf the original (or a set of Lucas pair of clip bars - i put a Lucas pair on my Ducati Monster 900: not bad, except the loss os steering mobility) clip ons for the old original Speed Triple. I think it is the anwser.
I have the same ideia than you and the same budject. I am gone to make the same thing than you. Take a good used Trident 900 (much more cheep than the same years used Speed Triple) and customize the bike to Speed Triple (or better!) standards with time.
Take a note that you could find the front suspension of Speed Triple or Daytona (old style - completely adjustable and with much better set of brakes and discs) and the set of instruments too...
