The dealer that I purchased my Triumph from has been around for many years; they are a multi brand dealer and have sold Triumph for at least 10+ years that I know about. I don’t know much about the experience of their mechanics. They did tell me the bike had been road tested and was ready for pickup; they did say that the belt was squealing again after the tire change, they did not say anything about the steering shimmy. The reason for the tire change was to pass state inspection; the tires were worn flat in the middle. I did not have a problem with the tire change; I had about 8,750 miles on the tires which is about what most other riders have been getting on the Metzler 880 tires. I have been running my tire pressure about two psi over the recommended 36 psi front and 38psi rear. I checked the front tire, it was installed with the correct rotation and the tires were balanced. I can only assume that it was done correctly. The shimmy was most noticeable between 25 to 45mph. Below 25mph you feel it but not that noticeable, over 45 it starts to smooth out. Thanks for your insights, I assume from your comments that you work for Triumph? The reason I purchased the T-Bird was because I liked its looks and specs better than Harleys of the same class. I have a buddy that I ride with, he has a Harley and tried a number of times over the years to get me to switch to Harley and I have stayed with Triumph bikes. Before the T-Bird I rode a 2007 Triumph America which was trouble free for the three years I owned it, I’m beginning to regret giving it up. I got a call from the dealer this afternoon, they said the belt was in and I made an appointment to have the belt replaced, at the same time they are supposed to correct the front end shimmy. I hope that both problems get resolved or I may be selling the bike and going to the dark side. |
