I got back into bikes after 30 odd years (had a bike, rice burner, got married, got rid of the bike as one does etc) when i purchased a second hand 2001 Bonneville(i have always wanted a Bonnie). Had the Bonnie for about a year, clocked up about 20,000Kms. loved it. Then the Thruxton came out. Gotta have one. Traded the Bonnie in. I have owned the Thruxton now for three & half months, clocked up 4400kms (over the New Zealand winter). I love it. She rides well, performs well and looks fantastic. Now that she has an aftermarket exhaust fitted she sounds great, not like a clapped out sewing machine as when delivered.
I am in my mid fifties and was a bit worried about the bars, (lean forward and wrists etc) but I am still using the stock bars, with no bad effects. I commute daily and long trips. I must say whenever I park someone comes up to me and says either, " good restoration job, what year is it?" and dont believe me when I say 2004, or "I used to have one of those...."
Overall a great bike. Powerful enough to be fun but not dangerous!
