Pillion Footrests

My girlfriend is quite tall and she finds her leg position a bit uncomfortable on long runs. I am led to believe that the the pillion footrests can be relocated forward and mounted where the hanger would normally be fixed. Has anyone made this modification? Any other ideas? Cheers Robert
