Yes, I think you will be very happy with a Daytona 1200 but that´s quite a jump ergonomically from one to the other. I´d say build quality is very close to BMW standards. I´ve got 36,000 miles on mine and it´s as good as new. I´ve taken good care of it but the whole bike is really solid (read over built). I have ridden a friend´s ´96 K1100 a few times. The K is a very good bike but very top heavy compared to the Triumph. That huge BMW fairing that does such a fantastic job of deflecting the elements makes it feel a lot larger than the Daytona. The K fells like it weighs 100 lbs more. The K is no slouch on horsepower but the Daytona builds power faster and has more top end. You´d best take it easy till you know what it can do. Find a long strech of deserted road and hold on! They both have tons of torque right off idle. The K has fuel injection and that might be a plus but I´ve installed a jet kit in mine and the results were fantastic. The flat spot that developed around 4,000 rpm after about 30,000 miles is gone and throttle responce from idle improved too. The stock riding position was pretty harsh but Heli-bars helped cure that.
As far as a Daytona 1200 owners club... I´ve not found one yet. There just weren´t that many produced or sold in the U.S. They´re pretty rare which is one more reason I like mine. It´s always the only one at any gathering or event I attend, even Triumph rallys.
Good luck.
