Triumph Daytona 1200, (common problems) Rattling or a whining noice indicates that your Balancer Shaft needs adjustment. I drove for a whole year irritated by the whining noice and no Triumph dealer could help me. Solution; At the right side below the crankcase cover there is a clamp with two balancer shafts hold at place by the shaft pinch bolts. Using a flat-bladed screwdriver and make adjustments whilst the engine is idling, noting that only one balancer pinch bolt should be slackened at a time. (rattling=too loosely)& (whining=too tightly meshed). Bad cold start is still following me but hopefully this week solved by a tip of a veteran. Bad cold start and bad motor performance at high temperatures go together. The pick-up coil can be the problem if wrong readings go to the ignition. Solution; first measure the resistance between the electrical connectors at a environment temperature. This should be arround 530 Ohms +/- 10 %. Than measure the resistance just after a good ride. Motor temp than is arround the boiling water temperature. The pick-up coil is located in the oil stream near the crankcase so it takes the oil temperature. The measurement should give you the same 530 Ohms if not you need a new coil (€ 50,--)If resistance is not the problem the air gap between pick-up coil and rotor trigger could be. Use a feeler blade and if you measure 0.6 to 0.8 mm it is ok. Performance; as a reaction at the above....yes remove the white pre filters as soon as possible and yes install a K&N filter in combine with a Dynojet-set it works wonders.
