I bought my Norton commando ´fastback´ in January 1969 from Sony Angel´s in National City California. I struggled with poor performance for over a year until I changed the 180 main jets to 220´s. It was like getting a new bike. I have done a couple of home made restorations (1982 and 1992) and recently had some ´make it run´ work done by Rocket Motorcycle Co. in San Diego Ca. Major items: New carbs, wiring harness, tires, re-seal the fiberglass tank, re-paint tank and rear fairing. The bike runs strong and true again but problems remain: Gas fumes are again bubbling up under the paint at the top of the tank and the bike is nearly impossible to pull up on the center stand. The latter problem is either due to the low profile rear tire, defective center stand or my advanced years(75 yrs. last month). I would like to find a new side stand, center stand and fiberglass tank. The tank needs to have the round indentations for the decorative medallions. I would appreciate hearing from anyone thanks Jerry C. Stafford |
