The R-6 does not lack power at low and mid range rpm´s however, because it is essentially produced as a track/race bike and street coming last, the power band is more readily usable when the engine is spinning above the 7,000 rpm mark. I presently own an 03 R1, and have owned and ridden two previous R6´s (02&03) The first generation up to 2002 were known for clinky gear boxes but outside of being annoying ....no faults found........ The second generation 03 and beyond have cleared up the gear box issue...... As to address the durabilty, they last as long as you care for them and most repairs are due to rider abuse or neglect. I have also owned and ridden a 99 Blade so I can tell you the expense to repair is identical. The fit and finish on both Yamaha and Honda are very good. When deciding between between the two bikes you are asking about, you have to ask yourself What is most important to you?.......Performance at the expense of everything else......Buy the R6, if other factors come to mind such as comfort.ie...rider and passenger, more upright seating, lower cost of insurance, shorter learning curve and ability to get more out of the bike you own........ Buy The FZ6....... I have ridden this bike as well in the rain and in a dry environment..... It´s a great bike.... Its not an all out sportbike but it wasn´t designed to be...... If you haven´t guessed by now, I am a Sales Manager for a Yamaha store.... I answer this question about 30 times a day.........Hope this helps! Any bike is better than a cage.......:)Robert |
