I read a few bike mag articles regarding Thundercats before I bought my ´97 model. One article was a 4 bike ´shootout´ (vs cbr600,gsxr600 and ZX6) and included top speeds achieved on a race track measured with a radar gun. YZF top speed was 149mph which is just shy of 240kmh. My own bike doesn´t quite make it to that speed though, and stops accelerating in the low to mid 230´s (indicated). Perhaps the speedo´s a bit out, I have never had the urge to ask a policeman to verify for me..... The YZF was actually the second slowest bike of that shootout (2mph difference from fastest to slowest), it also had the softest suspension which let it down in extreme riding. But what clinched it for me was its big fat torque curve and everyday ride-ability.
