I bought my bike last March(2005) and I spend about a month fixing it. It runs very well now, and I am very proud of it. When I bought it, it was not in running condition, but it had very low mileage, and it looked as it had spend most of the last twentythree years in barns or garages, so I took a chance on it. The main problem I had to fix was the defective starter. I learned after I bought the bike that the starter is notoriously poor and troublesome on this model. Yamaha has a reconmended fix on their web site, and there is a couple of good articles about how to fix the starter on the web. I fix mine by JB welding the planetary gears of the starter .That was the end of that problem (Please note, that this is not Yamaha reconmended option; then again, they are not willing to fix without charge what is obviously a defective product, so the hell with them). |
