Regular motor oil is fine, find the grade to use in the Owner´s Manual. The brakes are pretty simple on bikes, in fact most everything outside the engine is pretty simple on a bike. If you´ve ever done a brake job on a car you should have no problem - mechanical brakes are much easier to work on than hydraulic.
