Truly a long distance bike that made the grade. |

Believe me if you don´t own one of these bikes and you believe it´s "just a local riding bike", your definately very mistaken! I took this motorcycle, fully packed (full saddlebags, large duffelbag and rear trunk by GIVI) through 11 states and over 5,000 miles. I rode in just about all kinds of weather and the only thing I had to do on a mechanical note, was to change the oil and new O-Ring while in Texas. The only modification I did before heading out for this expected long distance ride, was to get a custom Corbin seat down in Hollister, California. Boy was I glad I did it too. With a comfortable seat it made the miles much more endurable riding alone (able to ride longer without all the stopping that another person would need). I´ve now increased the weight, by adding extra chrome pieces and removed the fake "plastic chrome" covers makes is feel more solid and lower without a lowering kit. I´ve also moved the turn signals further down the rear fender, I found they really got in the way of positioning the saddlebags, and it kinda gave it a more "cruiser" look. The only negative thing I can say about this bike, I still don´t like the way it handles with the skinny front tire and I feel it would have been a totally awesome bike with a wider rake and wider front forks. Knowing this in advance, I purchased some tires by Harley for the long road wear, all weather. Pretty good tires. All in all, this is a motorcycle I´m very proud to say I own. It´s still the only bike I have, but everytime I look at something new and the "more power" thing....I always come back with my Virago and know it´s a bike that has enough power and reliability that I can count on! |
