I just bought the same bike with only 5,000kms.. I got for a real deal from someone who layed it down once and has put it away ever since. Anyway, I took it to the dealer when I bought it and they actually replaced the oil sensor as a factory recall. Check it out with some near you, that bike is very well supported by Yamaha. I live in Toronto and regardless of how cold it is that shouldn´t happen.
