XT 550 ,1982 - engine replacement 1983-1988??

I have an old XT 550 from 1982 with a broken-down dead engine....Quistion; Is the frame from any other younger XT 550 model (say 1983-1988) the same, so that I can replace the engine onto my old frame (It has to be the old frame, bacause of license-registration)
