The gas mileage for the bike is about 40mpg. You´ll be able to get better mileage with a smaller bike, but the 850 has great acceleration and the drive shaft requires little maintenance if you´re going to be putting on a lot of miles. My first bike was also the XS850 1980 and it couldn´t have been a better fit.
