Mufflers TOO LOUD

I like just about everything about this bike- but it is just too loud- any suggestions on how to quiet the mufflers- I´m even wondering if some previous owner removed the baffles- I don´t want to spend a lot of $ on new exhaust- someone even mentioned Stuffing the pipes with Steel Wool- sound wild but I´m ready to try anything.
