What is the basic type of charging system on a 1981 XS400? I have several XS650s which have brushes under a cover on the left side of the crank. The cover can be removed without leaking oil. Would this be the case on a 1981 400? Does it have similar brushes? I´m asking for a friend whose XS400 won´t charge correctly. The brushes are the first thing to check on a XS650 but I don´t know a bout the 400. Next I would advise him to clean all connections before considering the Regulator/Rectifier.
Any advice?
