| Hi, These bikes are kinda like jigsaw puzzles, but there were a lot of changes after 1980. Simple mechanical things like a brake handle probably stayed fairly consistent over the years though, but you can check for sure - part #´s and interchangeability on Yamaha´s web site: (http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx) The brake Lever from a ´79 XS400F is Yamaha part #2J2-83922-00-00 The brake Lever from a ´79 XS650F is Yamaha part #2H7-83922-00-00 The first thre #´s refer to the specific year model and if the 2nd longer # matches, you may be in luck - but there are no guarantees - so lookk at the surrounding parts as well - i.e. if your matching a bike´s lever and one year has 7/8" handlebars and the other 1" handlebars, you might not have a match. You can find these things on eBay, JC Whitney and such, but here´s two web sites which list parts and will also sell them directly: (http://www.yamahaaccy.com/parts.aspx) (http://www.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/oem.asp?submit_from_stage=1§ion_dept_id=1) (http://www.xs650garage.com/) The brake levers are listed under ´Master Cylinder´, i think and not ´Front Break´. I have a couple of spares for my xs400 f (1979 - standard) and would be happy to arrange delivery and a reasonable price if you can´t work something out above or with your 650 set.
