I am also looking for the answers to your questions. I am running a ´82 heritage special which is basically the same bikes as yours but with the feature of a small see thru plastic porthole on the oil tank which is supposed to all for easier viewing of oils level. i cannot seem to get a good read on the level with this feature and am trying to find out whether my particular model can use the same dipstick style oil cap as your bike and whether this would give accurate readings.
