The name of the bike changed from country to country... U.S. market called it XS400 Seca (to difference it from the Maxim model, only sold in the U.S.) or RJ; in Germany XS400 12 E (to difference it from earlier Yamaha XS400 G models) and in Spain simply XS 400 because there were no other models... In Europe, the XS400 engine was black painted; in the U.S. it was without paint... There several esthetic changes (the engine covers design is slightly different) but the engine and specifications are the same in Europe and in the U.S.: I use to buy on eBay critical parts for this bike in the U.S. and Germany and they match without problems in a Spanish bike... In fact, in the beginning these bikes in Spain came from Germany... In fact, this wasn´t the only change that the XS400 suffered in the American market: later it was called XJ 400, but it was just a marketing strategy to try to show the consumer, tired of a lot of years with the same model in the market -the XS was the US most sold bike for a lot of years-, that Yamaha did something, but the bike was the same... And, in fact, actual XJ models don´t change a lot from the XS original idea... Just the design...
