Hi there, I have a 83 xs 250 special and have managed to get it going fairly well after the 3rd set of second hand carbs. I am know running xs 360 carbs, these are the same as the 250, I am lead to believe, but the xs 400 are different. My biggest problem is the amount of wear with these carbs. They all seem to have the same problem. The idle is factory set and the only way to adjust the idle speed without touching the preset idle screws is with the large screw knob in the middle. The motors are very strong but are hard to rev up high, hence this is why the engine, by way of bore wear, still has good compression. I did a compression test and not one bit of oil leaked passed the piston rings. though the clutch is showing sidns of wear. My next step is to start playing around with the factory preset idle screws to see if I cannot get a constant tick over of 1,000 revs. the book setting are 1,100 to 1,250. It just fluctuates so much when it is warm. Riding this bike is good fun and so relaxed after stepping down off my zx6r, but have also noticed a slight movement through the handle bars under front wheel braking, not sure if this is the head bearings or a front disc warp problen, shall have to investigate. keep her lit. |
