I took the bike to the shop after I tried everything to get it started again. They found no spark and the internal starter clutch gear going bad. They said this was pretty common on these older bikes. We swapped out the CDI and still had little spark. With the plugs out the mechs at the shop said there wasn´t enough spark to start with the plugs back in. I changed out the Volt regulator, coils, starter solinoid, still No Go. I suspect a wiring short somewhere. I have a spare harness of a parts bike that was good which I´ll swap out. As for the started clutch gear, I guess I have no choice but to learn how to rebuild this engine. I have a spare that has a bad top end, which I hope to tear apart and pull the clutch gear out of and with some luck place that one in my bike I´m presently working with. Either that or swap the engine out with a Seca xj750 engine I bought a few years back. I know the carbs won´t be the same, but will the CDi and wiring harness of a xj900 work with the xj750? Lastly, I´m wondering if any members out there live in Los Angeles and interested in bringing some motorcycles to Florida? Thanks for the help. |
