I´ve been working on an 83 XJ900 I bought last winter for next to nothing - which means it needed pretty much everything. One of the many problems the bike has, the shifter changes gears roughly and the shifter pedal doesn´t return, as if the spring is missing or broken. I took the shifter assembly off and also the cover. All springs look fine and nothing appears broken or misaligned.
This leads me to wonder if I should be looking at the clutch plates. Any advice would be appreciated.
