Nuetral switch

I have the shifter assembly taken apart as the spring broke and needs to be replaced. I just put on a new ignition and wanted to see if it was hooked up right. When I turn the key to ´on´ the green nuetral light doesn´t come on. Is the nuetral switch afftected by shifter assembly being apart?
