| I was given my 650 for fathers day. When i got it, the carbs needed to be cleaned out. I removed them completely from the bike. and disassembled each in turn. I first turned them in all the a way and recorded how many turns from stop I was. Then I backed the settings screws out. I used Cyclo carb cleaner spray bomb, and some fuel injector cleaner and a couple of cans of canned air (Wal-Mart 4.95 per) and blew ALL of the carb channels and holes out. There are channels that you can´t see but I feel confident the my diligence got them clean. Use gas if you can´t get Cyclo a good grade of injector cleaner will work. Please note:the brass jets and fitting are very brittle. Excessive force or a wrong tool will make jets/fittings un-removable. Use a socket and a short ratchet on this stuff. Too much force and the jet or fitting becomes permanent. I did each one separately and cleaned inside and out. This carb (Hitachi) is a simple ported constant velocity carb. Not a lot of moving parts. Work in a clean area of the shop too. It took me a while to get the carb sync right without a carb synchronizer but the engines runs really smooth at idle and the top end is always the. Good luck |
