XJ600 - reliable despite the poorest of care |

I pretty much didn´t lift a finger to look after my XJ600 - I just fixed anything that broke (normally just wearing parts) and oiled bits that got dry. It lived outside all year round and was ridden in all weathers. Despite this it still started on the button, first time, and ran as sweet as you like. Things that broke include: Front brakes seized (all Yamahas do though if living out, easily fixed) Main relay failed (caused by arcing due to a low battery caused by corroded reg/rectifier connections - easily fixed) Fork seals and fork legs replaced (normal wear & tear) Exhaust seal at cylinder head failed (rusty clamping sleeves, quite easily fixed). As you can see - all stupid faults, all easily fixed and all due to wear, tear or outside living. When it was running, which was 95% of the time, it ran lovely and gave 45 mpg. A good first time bike for someone who´s not afraid of spanner-wielding - quick enough to get you in trouble but will tour all day if needs be. Summary - a good, cheap bike. |
