Try to localise it. If the sound (clanking, knocking) is emanating from left rear end upon acceleration, then it is highly possible that it is the clutch chatter. (3 springs and 3 pads, centrifugally opening upon accel´n ´!!) My X-Max seems to have this problem..Otherwise, check licence plate for flapping with the wind..
