It is probably the chain squeaking. If it is, after ridding it the chain should be hot or warm to the touch. To tighten the chain you need to support the motorcycle securely with the rear wheel off the ground (Milk crate, motorcycle jack or stand). The rear wheel needs to be free to rotate freely. You will need a fast drying cleaner (a can of brake or carburator cleaner). Be careful not to get it on the paint or plastic on the motorcycle. You may also need a stiff bristled brush to remove dirt and dust caked on the chain. Spray the chain liberally with the cleaner while rotateing the rear wheel (motorcyle transmission needs to be in nuetral while doing this). An extra pair of hands is helful too to do the turning of the tire to rotate chain. Allow the chain to dry before lubricateing. A mechanic friend recommended a product called Chain Wax (it goes on as a light oil and dries to a tacky, waxy finish. There are other products available similar just make sure they say the are for motorcyle roller type chains. To lubricate, spray the lubricant on the chain per directions on the can. They may recommend doing this on a warm chain. If supported securely you may be able to start the motorcyle and allow it to run for a short time, very short since you have cleaned it and removed all the lubrication. Drive train slack Per Yamaha Owners manual. 1. Place the motorcycle on a level surface and hold it in an upright position (straight up with no weight on it, transmission in nuetral). 2. Move the rear wheel by pushing the motorcycle to locate the tightest portion of the drive chain. DTS (Drive Train Slack)should be 30.0 to 40.0mm (1.18 - 1.57). Center a ruler behind the chain and between links to observe slack. To adjust DTS 1. Loosen the brake pedal freeplay adjusting nut. 2. Remove tje cotter pin from the axle nut, and loosen the axle nut. 3. Lossen the chain puller locknut at each end of the swing arm. 3. Turn the adjusting nut at the end of each swing arm clockwise to tighten and counter clockwise to loosen then push the wheel forward (use the alignment marks on each side of the swing arm to make sure that both chain pullers are in the same position). 5. Tighten the locknuts (on the chain pullers, then tighten the axle nuts to (104 Nm, 75 ft-lbf) 6. Insert a new cotter pin into the axle nut, and then bend one end of the cotter pin back over the end of the botle and the other end over the nut. 7. Adjust the brake pedal free play nut.
