DGM frame number

hi. i have picked up a 1988 wr 250 for restoration. she has a DGM number on the head stock how ever i have no idea where to find the 17 digit vin. the DGM seems to be were the vin would be if it wasnt built by the italians.
it also has a uk reg but according to dvla it hasnt had a logbook since 1995
has anyone out there with the same bike able to help find it?
