The backfire is actually an afterburn and due to the lean fuel setting (thanks EPA). To eleiminate this anoyance simply "richen" the mixture by removing the brass plug on the side of the carb and adjust the idle mixture screw for a stronger (faster) idle and then adjust the rpm back to 1000 RPM. This should take care of most of your "backfire" problems. email me if you need more help. John
