WHAT CAN ONE SAY THE RD400 WAS A WEAPON FOR ALL AGES, THE HANDLING WAS SUPERB COMPARED TO OTHER MAKES IE SUZUKI 380GT, BUT MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN AS GOOD AS SOME OF THE EARLIER 350 YAMS WHICH BENIFITED FROM STEERING DAMPERS, IT TENDED TO BOUNCE AROUND ON BUMPY BENDS, THE WHEELIES THEY COULD PULL CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS AWSOME, I BLEW OFF HONDA 750 F1 EVEN TOP END AND GT750 WATER BUCKETS AS FOR A TIGHT ROAD THESE TWO 750´S WERE LEFT FOR DEAD, EVERYONE THAT RODE AN RD400 WAS USUALLY A "NUTTER" .IT WAS DESIGNED FOR NUTTERS, IT WAS A GIANT KILLER IF EVER THERE WAS ONE, THE GUY ON THE HONDA 750 F1 HAD THE ADDED HUMILIATION OF ALSO BEING BLOWN OFF BY A RD250DX AT THE SAME TIME!! IT WAS MY MATE WHO I WAS "DRAFTING" BEHING ME, ie SIX INCHES FROM MY NUMBER PLATE, FLAT ON THE TANK, FEET ON THE BACK FOOTRESTS AND LEFT HAND ON THE FORKS, HE ALSO HAD THE 250 DX TUNED REGULARLY TO TRY TO KEEP UP WITH THE RD400 AND IF WE GAVE HIM A BREAK ON THE ACCELERATION HE COULD KEEP UP IF WE DIDNT THE 400 WAS STREETS AHEAD ON THE "LIFT" THE NEAREST THING TO THE RD400 WAS A WELL RIDEN KAWASAKI 400 BUT THE YAM HANDLED BETTER,A 500 KAWASAKI WAS FASTER BUT TOO SOFT ON THE CORNERS, A WELL RIDDEN 400 HONDA FOUR WAS CLOSE TOP END BUT NOT ON THE LIFT, AROUND HOUSING ESTATES THE RD400 WAS A SHOW-OFFS DREAM I HAVENT RIDEN ONE IN ANGER SINCE 1978 BUT REMEMBER MY RD DAYS, WITH A DOZEN OR SO RD MATES AS A REAL BLAST, ANY ONE WHO DIDNT OWN A RD YAM NEVER TRULY WAS SEVENTEEN.
