First go get a Clymer or Haynes repair manuel that covers that bike
you can order it online or get one from a Yamaha shop or Bike parts
house.The shift linkage can be adjusted on the right side{as your
sitting on it}when you pushed in shaft thats what disengaged it from
the other side.The manuel will show you how to reposition it
