| Hello just to comment, not meaning to be negative but the picture of the DT is the wrong colour for a 250 MX, it should be what Yamaha called brick red. The Balboa Blue one as it was correctly named did come out the same time as the brick red one in 1977, they were produced for less tha 12 months before having a few small modifications machanicaly and also cosmeticaly the cosmeticaly being the colour change to white. I´m not sure if they contiued to produce the white 400 maybe because if they did they did´nt sell many because everyone was going to the 250´s because of the 250 cc riding age limet and buying bigger than 400 cc wene passing ther tests. I did restore a Balboa Blue 1977-78 400 MX starting in 1995 after getting rid of the neusance box (TELLY) which was wasting my life away! The whole project took me eight years and the only things that i did´nt replace new on the bike were the frame swing arm wheel hubs,inner crank cases cylinder head, handle bars because the bar that went accross was a certain thickness and they were no longer available from Yamaha as were´nt loads of other stuff, even the bolts from Yamaha had number eight on top wene they should have been number nine,the fortunate way in which i overcame this was to fortunatly find a 400 that had been stuck broke down in a garage for 16 years i paid 1300 for it, took all the tarnished bolts out and built the ones with number eight back in, i got the tarnished number nine ones re zinked and built them into my bike. Some of the parts came from as far as Australia. I did show the bike at Staffashire County Show twice getting a highly commended award the first time but fogetting my number plate the second time did´nt give me any chance of anything due to the very high standard of bikes which was forcing them to go right down to detail. Anyway i sold the bike three years ago due to moving up London i got £2500, i only rode the bike twice up and down my street, all the other time it was wrapped in sheets in my front room, with my RG 500. It would be good to contact the lad who bought the bike who´s number i lost. I still dont have a telly, i dont have any bikes, but i´ve still got a life!! signed, OLD ANORACK THAT´S NOT STOPPED DREAMING OF YAMAHA DT 400 MX PART NUMBERS!!!!! |
