I am the original, and still, Proud owner of the 1981 Yamaha MX 175G. This bike was and still is a tank! (In a good way). The dry weight of this bike is 211.7 Pounds (MX Version) ((Dirt only)). It offered 6.30" of front suspension, and 5.12" of rear travel. It had a Nitrogen Gas filled rear shock, and a Monocross A arm rear swing arm. Pretty good for it´s day and age. This bike was always reliable. It had an Autolube pump, so premixing the gas was never needed... the Autolube pump did it for you. The seat height was very low, a mere 31.1"... so this made the bike very comfortable for a novice, young rider. The Power was very soft and manageable for a new learning rider, smooth low end, and not much else. It was a six speed, so getting up and going at speed could be done. Overall... this bike is the bike that got me hooked, and addicted to dirt biking way back in the early eighties. It is a great bike for the new, beginning rider who finds themselves easily intimidated by the taller bikes of today. It was relatively bullet proof, and the "out of normal maintenance costs" were slim to none. So for a beginner... the low cost, the easy power, the and the crash friendly toughness of this bike make it a winner in my book. Play Ride Rating 7 out of 10 Stars. Race Rating 3 out of 10 Stars... even in VIntage class. |
