Yes the DT125R is restricted. My 2003 model has restrictions in 3 places. 1.Reed switch in speedo. 2.Exhaust. 3.CDI. The reed switch is in the speedo clock and you have to take off the light cowling and remove the 2 clips holding in the clock (speedo only) undo the speedo cable and lift up the clock so you can see underneath it. You will see 2 things, a round black bung that holds the bulb for the clock and a white oblong plastic plug this is the reed switch. You must not cut it or dissconnect it but simply prise it out and tuck it as far away from the clock as possible (about 2cm will do)and you will notice more top speed. It looks a bit like a fuse or thin bulb but what it does is cut engine power at speeds over 50 mph. You can easily purchase a full DEP exhaust for about £200 to cure problem 2. The last problem is the CDI and the hardest to come by. You cant just go buy 1 from a dealer but the early DT125R´s 1988-91 had no restrictions on their CDI´s as they were only mechanically restricted by the ypvs and exhausts. You must source one from a breakers or e bay but good luck as its not easy and expect to pay about £120 for one secondhand. Germany seems a good place to get them on e bay as all the ones I have found were from there but no one was shipping to the UK so Im still looking. As a side note if you do manage to get all 3 parts done then remember to put a small amount of two stroke oil in the petrol tank as well as running the autolube system you use as standard as the 2000-2003 bikes oil pump is not up to the job as it runs very lean to pass the stricter emmission laws we now have. Earlier models should be ok. Hope this helps. |
