Maybe you no longer want info on this but it will help anybody else who stumbles on this page.
I bought a Yamaha XVS 1100 Drag Star in the spring 2006. It´s a great bike, and delivers very good performance. It has good pick up at low speeds, but the torque seems to level out at higher speeds early on. The specs show the max torque at 2500rpm, while the engine is capable of going about at least twice as much rpm. In other words, it´s a great city bike if you use it for under 100kph (60mph) and allows you to move quickly to take over on highways. Beyond the 100kph limit you might have to really throttle to do quick highway takeovers; and you´ll find yourself burning quite a bit more fuel at 140kph than 120kph. At about 100kph the fuel capacity is maybe about 20km per litre. If you use it at 140kph, it gets to about 14 or 15km per litre.

If you´re buying a bike that´s gone 20,000 km, check to make sure it was servied at the 18,000 km point. Ask for the service log book, and check if there was a service at 6,000km (minor), 12,000km (major) and 18,000km (minor). If not, you can bargain the price down on the fact the bike hasn´t been maintained properly, and that servicing will cost you a bundle. Get an estimate of what a minor and major servicing typically costs.
