Pre VIN serial nembers

So ive just stared a new project where im slowly restoring an old yamaha ag100 that i got for free however the old owner doesn´t know the year/exact model and it appears to be pre VIN so ive no idea how to decode the serial number the serial number is 3V6-003606 any help figuring put the year and model would be greatly appreciated.
