Looking at a VZ 800 |

Hello guys, I am just getting back into riding after a very long time. I am considering buying a new C50 but also I have been advised that I can save a bunch by basically buying the same bike used. Which isn´t really the case, this is chain and the C50 is shaft, this has two carbs and the C50 is fuel injected and I am sure there are other differences but the reputation is bullet proof which is good. I would like to hear the good and bad of a 2001 VZ 800. The one I am looking at locally, I haven´t seen it yet except in a crappy picture has only 8700 miles and is suppose to be showroom and he wants $2750, I don´t know if that is a good price or not. Are the Carbs hard to clean? Are there any other maintenance items that need attention? With 2% financing from Suzuki for a new one it really has to be a good deal to make it worth the aggravation of a used bike. As you can tell I know enough to be dangerous. What I know, I rode a 750 Triumph in the 60´s and liked it quite well, I bought a 450 Honda 2 cylinder and hated it and sold it shortly after I bought it. The Triumph had tons of power but it was a much lighter bike than the Suzuki, I think an 800 would be good for getting back into it. Any ideas let me know. Thanks, Barry |
